Love of Leeds

Posted 4 years ago

I’m very flattered and honoured to be included in Jude Palmer’s beautiful book “Love of Leeds’. It’s a photographic love letter to our city, shining a light on our culture through the lens of the arts and sport. Sharing a platform with so many passionate people who make our city what it is is truly thrilling and humbling all at the same time.

When I was initially approached, I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive. Being photographed at work in my studio isn’t something I’ve done before and I wasn’t something I was sure I wanted to share with the world. The studio is a very private space – a place where I gather together the stuff that inspires me, the place where I make new connections and come up with new ideas, a safe space where I can test out those ideas, a place where I can fail. Sharing that intensely personal space with others sounded risky!

However, Jude was deeply respectful and interested in what I was doing. We chatted for ages about artistic practice and about what we were both up to – a meeting of minds!
