Absolutely chuffed to be working with The Bowes Museum on a new project for this summer centred around their amazing ceramics collection.
The Bowes Museum is a like a huge French chateau landed in the idyllic market town of Barnard Castle in County Durham, UK. It was established by Joséphine and John Bowes in the nineteenth century and opened in 1892 as a public museum (it was not designed nor ever used as a residence). Their life’s passion was the arts and the museum is home to substantial and varied collections of textiles, paintings, furniture, silverware and ceramics. Today the museum works regularly with contemporary artists to reimagine the collections for new audiences.
I’ll be working with their ceramics collection, specifically figurines of pets! More details to be announced soon, but here are some images to whet your appetite.
The first image is me with the family cats Dusty and Ash. Just look how happy they are to be photographed! The other images are figurines from the collection dating from 1730 to the twentieth century.
