Ribbons website launches

Posted 5 months ago

A dedicated website for Ribbons by Leeds Arts University has launched today! It includes a section listing all the 384 women who are included on the sculpture so why not check out if there’s someone on there you know? Or maybe you’re on it yourself??

The website also includes a beautiful essay by Professor Griselda Pollock, who talks about the importance knowing the names of women who ‘sustain so many aspects of the life of people in all communities in this city’. ‘If the women of the world are nameless armies of workers, carers, mothers, thinkers, creators, their work still has its effects, but we are not changed. Names open doors to stories, deeds, and the example of people who do not seek power or influence, but every day tip the scales in favour of humanity through dedication, invention, courage and above all, doing something for others and the world… Women make a difference. We need to know their names.’

If you’re included on the website (and the sculpture!), please send a photo of yourself to james.sharpe@leeds-art.ac.uk
